A load-bearing cover is fitted over the two structures and supports the upholstered seat and backrest cushions. This unconventional construction gives Cross its distinctive exposed-frame appearance while separating the structural and comfort elements of the chair. Marcello Cuneo's Cross received an honorable mention at the Compasso d'Oro in 1979. The Cross Armchair high-back version extends the original concept into a more enveloping lounge chair while retaining the recognizable metal structure and generously upholstered cushions.

Made in Italy
Usually ships within 6-8 weeks
Free Shipping (USA & Canada)

Design & Features

Designed by Marcello Cuneo in 1974.

Re-edition of a design from the Arflex historical archive.

High-back armchair configuration.

Structure based on two U-shaped metal tubes connected by a joint.

Metal structure.

Seat and backrest cushions filled with goose down and protected by down-proof fabric.

Load-bearing structure available in cowhide, fabric, or leather.

Received an honorable mention at the Compasso d'Oro in 1979.

Materials & Construction

Structure:
Metal.

Seat Cushion:
Goose down with down-proof fabric.

Backrest Cushion:
Goose down with down-proof fabric.

Load-Bearing Structure:
Cowhide, fabric, or leather.

Dimensions

Width: 26 in / 66 cm

Depth: 34.3 in / 87 cm

Overall Height: 33.5 in / 85 cm

W 26" × D 34.3" × H 33.5"

Metric: W 66 × D 87 × H 85 cm

Why Choose the Arflex Cross Armchair High Back?

The defining characteristic of Cross is its unusual structural clarity. Rather than concealing the chair's supporting system beneath conventional upholstery, the design makes the U-shaped metal elements an essential part of its visual identity. The load-bearing covering supports separate goose-down seat and back cushions, creating a deliberate contrast between the precise metal structure and soft upholstery. For contemporary living rooms, reading areas, and design-focused interiors, the High Back version offers a distinctive combination of Italian design history and expressive structural engineering.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0581/5825/2109/files/download_1_3a3682b2-f8c3-4169-a738-58d1d841bb38.jpg?v=1764087823
