The Quadro sideboard, designed by Alessio Bassan for Capod’opera, is an iconic piece that bridges the gap between furniture and rationalist architecture. It is best known for its "checkerboard" facade, which creates a rhythmic, sculptural effect that changes depending on how the light hits it. The "Quadro" sideboard (meaning square or painting) gets its name from the uniform 30x30 cm panels that make up its front. These panels are applied at two different depths (18 mm and 30 mm), creating a dynamic 3D surface of "projections and recesses."The alternating depths of the squares give the piece a sense of movement. This "optical art" effect can be subtle in monochromatic lacquers or bold when mixing different colors or textures. The top and sides are joined at a perfect 45-degree angle with concealed joints, giving the sideboard a solid, monolithic appearance. To maintain the clean geometric lines, there are no visible handles. A 10x10 mm gap (milling) between the top/sides and the doors serves as a continuous "shutter" for opening.
