Designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell, the Louis Ghost chair is a daring reimagining of the classic Louis XVI armchair. It is perhaps the most famous example of "polycarbonate chic," blending 18th-century Baroque lines with 21st-century industrial innovation. Made from a single block of transparent or colored polycarbonate injected into a single mold. Despite its regal silhouette, its transparency makes it appear weightless, allowing it to fit into small spaces without creating visual clutter. While it looks delicate, it is incredibly sturdy, shock-resistant, and weather-resistant. Practicality meets high art; you can stack up to six chairs high. Starck describes the chair as "a ghost, a reflection, a floating shadow." The Louis Ghost chair is a piece of furniture that doesn't scream for attention but commands it nonetheless. It works equally well in a minimalist glass-walled dining room, a rustic farmhouse kitchen, or an avant-garde office. "It is a product of our collective memory. It’s a Louis XVI chair, but we don't know exactly what it is. Everyone recognizes it and feels it is something familiar, but it is fundamentally new."
