The Gelosia Nightstand, designed by Alessio Bassan for Capod’opera, is a striking example of "3D design" in luxury furniture. Introduced as part of the 2023 collection, it is defined by its architectural complexity and the dramatic interplay of light and shadow on its surfaces. The name "Gelosia" (Italian for "jealousy" or "shutter/lattice") refers to the trellis-like pattern that dominates the front of the unit. The Gelosia Nightstand’s design moves away from flat surfaces, opting instead for a dynamic, rhythmic arrangement of slanted drawers and surface grooves. This creates a deep sense of three-dimensionality that changes appearance depending on the angle of light in the room. The drawer fronts feature an inclined cut and precision-milled geometric grooves, giving the piece a slim, energetic profile. To keep the geometric pattern uninterrupted, the drawers are mounted at an angle to the internal structure, allowing them to be opened without the need for traditional handles. The top and sides are often crafted from ultra-thin 4mm sheet metal, which protrudes slightly (approx. 16mm) from the main structure, creating a delicate "frame" around the textured drawers. The unit sits on adjustable feet hidden within a solid wood block, giving the nightstand a grounded yet sophisticated presence.
