The Hug sideboard, designed by Alessio Bassan and Silvano Pierdonà, is one of Capod’opera’s most recent and refined additions. The name "Hug" refers to the way the side panels and the top "embrace" the main body of the unit, creating a protective, sculptural shell. The Hug sideboard is characterized by its continuous pleated surface, which gives the piece an intense tactile and visual rhythm. It is a design that moves away from flat surfaces to explore the interplay of shadow and light. The side panels and the front doors are adjoined at a precise 45-degree angle, but the edges of the structure extend slightly beyond the top surface, creating a "tray" effect or a framed top. The collection is typically defined by two signature engravings: 3D Plissé: A fine, dress-like pleating that looks exceptionally soft despite being made of high-density fiberboard. 3D Bars: A more architectural, bold vertical grooving. A unique "shaped" version is available where the side doors are slightly inclined/angled, breaking the traditional rectangular box shape for a more aerodynamic, contemporary look.
