The K-Top coffee table is a striking exercise in material contrast and geometric precision. Designed by the late Italian master Rodolfo Dordoni, this piece represents a sophisticated departure from Kartell's traditional all-plastic aesthetic, moving instead toward a "refined industrial" look that pairs high-tech polymers with the timeless elegance of ceramic. Dordoni's approach with the K-Top was to create a piece that feels architectural and permanent. While many Kartell pieces play with transparency and lightness, the K-Top Coffee Table focuses on the tactile richness of its surfaces. It is a study in the harmony between a sturdy, tripod-like base and a slim, high-performance "top" that mimics the natural veins of stone. The centerpiece of the design is the ultra-thin ceramic slab top. It offers the luxurious look of marble (available in various finishes like Marquinia or Statuario) but with the superior durability, heat resistance, and scratch resistance of technical ceramic. The table is supported by a distinctive, cross-shaped base made of matte-finished polyester or painted aluminum. The legs are angled to provide maximum stability while maintaining a slim profile. By combining a technical "cold" base with a "warm" stone-effect top, Dordoni creates a piece that fits effortlessly into both ultra-modern penthouses and classic mid-century interiors. Unlike natural marble, which is porous and prone to staining, the K-Top’s ceramic surface is non-porous and incredibly easy to maintain, making it perfect for high-traffic living rooms.
