A whimsical, unforgettable statement piece that perfectly highlights Kenneth Cobonpue’s playful imagination and mastery of form, the Babar Cabinet stands as a sculptured tribute to natural textures. Named after the beloved storybook elephant, this multi-functional storage desk blurs the line between high-end furniture design and fine art. The Babar Cabinet is a masterful example of figurative design. Handcrafted entirely from intricately woven rattan vine cores layered over a robust structural steel frame, the desk takes on the distinctive, charming shape of an elephant standing at attention. The structure is packed with hidden functionality: Features a beautifully sculpted elephant head, complete with adjustable, swinging ear panels that function as cabinet doors. The hollowed middle provides an alcove housing a smooth wooden writing desk surface, perfect for a laptop or stationery. The flanking "legs" and upper "howdah" section act as open, airy storage shelves for books, binders, or decorative accents. A sculpted wooden trunk and a swinging braided tail complete the artisan look.

General Information
After spending years abroad, Kenneth Cobonpue returned to Cebu, Philippines, in 1996 to take over his mother Betty's furniture design and manufacturing company. Betty, who is a designer and a Pratt graduate, founded the company. Kenneth realized that modern design could be reinvented using natural fibers and materials. He began creating the pieces that now make up the collection by blending locally sourced organic materials with innovative handmade production techniques. This offered an alternative to the Western definition of modern design. He pays tribute to the talent of craftsmen, which forms the basis of the designs produced by KENNETH COBONPUE today. The company produces high-end indoor and outdoor furniture and furnishings known for their artistic imprint and unique visual impact. All creations skillfully integrate nature, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative technologies.
