Introduced to the world at the prestigious Salone del Mobile in Milan, the Être Sofa is a striking masterpiece that seamlessly blends strict geometric shapes with the free-flowing, ancient art of hand-knotting. Acclaimed designer Kenneth Cobonpue challenges the conventional limits of upholstery, turning a foundational living room essential into a dynamic, sculptural conversation piece. "Être"—French for to be—captures the essence of living organically in the present. The collection explores the fascinating relationship between hard angles and soft, interwoven textures. Rather than hiding the sofa's structural framework, Cobonpue brings it to life. By weaving thick, plush ropes into a complex lattice of knots across a sinuous steel frame, the sofa creates an intricate interplay of light, shadow, and negative space that shifts as you walk around it. The defining feature of the Être collection is its tactile, patterned mesh. Master artisans painstakingly tie premium, plush cotton ropes into an alternating series of square knots, forming a breathtakingly precise polygonal pattern. Providing structural integrity and a striking aesthetic base, strips of pristine fiber are tightly wrapped around a undulating, powder-coated steel frame. This technique ensures that every inch of the sofa feels uniquely handcrafted and rich with texture. Tucked within its artistic silhouette are deep, supportive cushions upholstered in premium textiles and packed with high-resiliency urethane foam.

General Information
After spending years abroad, Kenneth Cobonpue returned to Cebu, Philippines, in 1996 to take over his mother Betty's furniture design and manufacturing company. Betty, who is a designer and a Pratt graduate, founded the company. Kenneth realized that modern design could be reinvented using natural fibers and materials. He began creating the pieces that now make up the collection by blending locally sourced organic materials with innovative handmade production techniques. This offered an alternative to the Western definition of modern design. He pays tribute to the talent of craftsmen, which forms the basis of the designs produced by KENNETH COBONPUE today. The company produces high-end indoor and outdoor furniture and furnishings known for their artistic imprint and unique visual impact. All creations skillfully integrate nature, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative technologies.
