Produced by Wiener GTV Design (Gebrüder Thonet Vienna), this Magistretti 03 01 Dining Chair with Armrests is loosely inspired by the clean, balanced proportions of traditional Chinese seating. Magistretti filters this Eastern philosophy through the lens of European modernism, utilizing GTV's signature steam-bent wood to form a continuous, fluid structure that feels simultaneously architectural and profoundly welcoming. Striking a unique visual balance, the armchair features a simple, clean-cut geometry that subtly references classic Ming-style chairs while remaining assertively modern. Built with a suspended, single-piece plywood shell that curves naturally into a soft "curl" to cradle the body, ensuring exceptional comfort without relying on bulky padding. Crafted from solid beechwood, the frame uses curved elements of a perfectly round section to effortlessly shape the armrests and wrap around the backrest. As one of Vico Magistretti’s final, late-career creations, this chair encapsulates his lifelong dedication to simple shapes, functional honesty, and expressive lines.
