The Marea Dining Table, designed by the creative duo Bernhardt & Vella for Arflex, is a poetic exploration of materials that bridges the gap between mid-century Italian flair and minimalist Japanese aesthetics. While initially launched with coffee and side tables, the series has expanded to include a sculptural Dining Table version that serves as a centerpiece for contemporary interiors. The name Marea (Italian for "Tide") reflects the fluid, organic inspiration behind the collection. Bernhardt & Vella focused on the "natural expressiveness" of stone and glass. The design story is one of contrast: It harmoniously blends the soul of Italian design—known for its luxurious materials and bold silhouettes—with the purity of Japanese aesthetics, characterized by essential forms and a "zen" sense of balance. The table highlights the raw beauty of marble. The transition between the heavy, tectonic nature of the stone top and the slender, architectural base creates a visual "ebb and flow." Often presented in exquisite marble (such as Carrara or Nero Marquina) or baked fumé glass. The edges are typically softened to enhance the organic feel. A sophisticated structural system made of anodized aluminum (often in black or satin finishes) or wood, designed to look light and airy while supporting the substantial weight of the top. The "Marea Dining Table" is intended to be viewed from all angles, making it ideal for open-plan dining rooms or executive meeting spaces.
